breastfeeding pain

I need some help. I am breastfeeding my almost one month old and it is still painful every time we latch. My baby is a preemie born at 35 weeks but nursed from the beginning. He has the duck lips going on but I dont think he is taking in enough of the nipple- any suggestions?? I dont want to be in pain forever. thanks

i know when joe was smaller i had to help him open his mouth by placing my finger on his chin, opening his mouth wide and QUICKLY bringing him to my boob!

:hugs: Get in touch with your local LLL. Sorry I can't be more helpful! Stick with it, though, it is sooooooo worth it.

I agree get w/ a LC, sounds like he has a bad latch. My 1st had a bad latch and I suffered through it, eventually it was less painful but 2nd was perfect never had the pain. I didn't see a LC w/ the 1st now I wish I had, it would have been a much better experience. It is hard to help via computer, but if you are having a hard time locating someone in your area let us know someone will help you find help I am sure. Check w/ the hospital where you delivered, most LD wards have a LC and most are very willing to help even after you have been discharged.

LLL or LC definately. In the mean time, make him relatch until he gets it right. This is the only way to correct it. Also, is the pain in the nipple ( due to latch) or is it in the breast, which could mean something different like thrush? Hang in there.

Yeah, same thing here! I would highly recommend seeing a LC if you can or contacting a LLL group.
