Tandem Nursing Anyone else out there??

I soon will be tandem nursing a 12 mo and newborn. How did you do it. If they both want to nurse at the same time did you let them?? How time consuming was it? Was the older dc jealous?? Just wondering. I would love to find a copy of the book Adventures in Tandem Nursing used. If it is out there let me know. Thanks

We tandem but its twins...so not much help to you there.

Although my 4yr old has recently started showing a slight interest in nursing again even though he hasnt nursed since he was 6 months old. He gets mad if he sees me feeding one of his brothers, on what he claims to be his side.

My LC told me that it makes matter worse if you refuse the older child...even if they have been over nursing for years... if possible get the older one engrossed in an activity b/f you nurse the baby. Naptime is useful too. =) Make sure you explain to the older sibling that you will be nursing the new baby, etc, to prepare her ahead of time. Let her "help"....yes they can help...lol...mine like to hold my breast while #4 nurses, he of course doesnt need any help, but they think they are helping lol. Preparation is key... =) The more you let them "help" the less jealousy issues will occur.... Good Luck! =)

Not currently but I tandem nursed my 22m and newborn until my oldest was 3 and she self weaned. She was old enough I could set some bounderies though and I don't think you could as easily for a 12m. But essentially I let them nurse whenever they wanted but tried to have sometimes just one at a time. I think I had less jealousy issues than I would have otherwise. . It is important to prepare the older child for the coming baby. We talked about how her baby sister would need to nurse a lot at first, ect to prepare her ahead of time.
