Calorie intake

I am breastfeeding my 18 month old son 3-5 times a day (on demand). I am 8 weeks pregnant. I seem to be hungry all the time. I get very nauseous when I haven't eaten in a couple hours. My question is how many calories should I be consuming in a day if I am pregnant and breastfeeding.

Re: Calorie intake

I'm in no way an expert, but ... Exclusive breastfeeding uses 300-500 extra calories, so maybe 1/3 that for an 18-month-old breastfeeding on demand?

For first trimester, I don't think you need many extra calories, but experts recommend 6-8 small meals a day instead of 3 large meals. Empty stomachs or low blood sugar can cause nausea! Try for lots of protein and complex carbohydrates and see if you feel better.

... off to go eat a protein and complex carb snack to try to relieve my 8-week nausea. :giggle:
