Homemade Hummus

Everybody seems to rave about how easy it is to make your own hummus ... but last time I tried, it tasted really bitter and icky. I'm guessing it was the tahini that I was using (I've never tasted tahini before, but the little taste I tried before throwing it into the blender tasted icky to me). Should I get the roasted or raw tahini? Salted or unsalted?

Also is it okay to use canned chickpeas instead of cooking dry chickpeas for hummus?

...AND canned chickpeas LOL :bagoverhead:

so you just blend up canned chickpeas  , cumin, garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil? (Sorry - it's been a while since I looked at the recipe) wow - that'd be easy and cheap.

Anyone used dried chickpeas for this? I have some, and I realize I'll have to soak them and cook them before I can make hummus with them. Just wondering if anyone does it this way and if you have any tips! (Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread!)

you got it! for one can of peas it would be like 1/2 cupish of olive oil, a capfull of cumin, a little bit of lemon juice, 2 garlic cloves and I make mine with some milk to cream it up a bit. just a little bit of salt and pepper. all together in the blender.

it would turn out the same. just follow a hummus recipe after you have cooked your chickpeas. i'm lazy though, chick peas take a long time to cook

This is THE Hummus recipe! You have got to give this a try!

My DH and I can eat a whole batch for lunch.

I am normally a hummus purist and thought you HAD to have tahini in a good hummus. Boy, was I wrong. This is soooooo good. Really, you HAVE to try it!
