Wicking/leaking or not enough absorbancy?

This is going to sound so stupid but how do I know if my AIO are wicking/leaking or if DS is just peeing too much for the soaker?

If it is wicking does it soak right through the front...or just through the inner thighs...or both?

I find that if I add a 2-3 layer insert under the soaker I don't seem to have a problem with them getting damp on the outside....so I am thinking he just pees alot and the internal soaker is just not enough for him?

Or, will buildup cause wicking??

Can someone explain how to tell the difference?

Some of his AIO are getting smallish and I would hate to sell them not knowing if they truly are wicking/leaking or he just pees alot. KWIM?

Thanks!!!

How long is he wearing them for?

I would say if, just the thighs are getting wet it's too much pee in the absorbant part, and will cause wicking. Sometimes you can have a SERIOUS wicking problem, and the WHOLE AIO will be wet..almost like a fitted...in that case you might want to see if your diaper has any build up.

To test for build up.
Take your dipe. Absorbant part and waterproof part. Splash a LITTLE bit of water on it. Does the water absorb fast? Or does it roll off?
Try this on the waterproof part too. The water SHOULD just roll away...NOT absorb AT ALL!..If it absorb just a little..then you might have buildup, and/or you might have to rewaterproof your diapers.

A lot of AIO's aren't great for absorbancy. I don't really use them anymore, unless for mom/g'ma/babysitter!...and even then, I show them how to use a FB!!!

Thanks! I think I had buildup....soap in the water when I didn't add any....my entire diape stash is now out on the line and DS has a gulp, sposie on, ha!

I am not a huge fan of AIO's either and if I need a super duper reliable diape I put on a fitted and wool or a sez pocket. I don't "trust" my Aio's to be honest!
