Please help me identify this bite.

DD has had this for about 3 days now and broke down crying tonight because she says it itches so bad. At first I thought mosquito bite but she has one on the other leg that is definitely a mosquito bite and is not swollen. Then I thought bee sting but this is a child that would scream if she had been stung. Then I thought spider bite...I just don't know. Whatever it is she seems to be allergic to it.

I would guess spider bite - I have one on the back of one knee that looks similar and itches like crazy. It is swollen in the center and has a radiating rash like that. I know mine is a spider bite. Are you using any cortisone cream? Can you give her an antihistamine of some kind to see if that helps the itching and redness? Tylenol could help, too. Definitely keep an eye on it. :hugs: :goodvibes:

I've tried Bactine (it has Lidocaine in it) and tonight we tried Hydrocortisone cream, which she said didn't help. We gave her an ice pack, too.

I second the benedryl. At least it should take down the itching/swelling. I don't know what kind of bite it is, but it does look like an allergic reaction to whatever it was. :( Sorry mama!

I used to react like that to mosquitoes as a kid...but not every time. We had a theory about them biting the right spot, like on a vein being the reason. No idea why it happened sometimes, an usually on the thigh. Could be spider, does it ache?

Thanks, Mamas. I thought about giving Benadryl but didn't know if a bug bite warranted it. I appreciate the input! And I guess we have family history of reactions to bites. DH's dad reacts like this no matter what bites/stings him. I just hope DD doesn't react worse each time.

I keep Benedryl around for bites and severe allergic reaction. Unfortunately, I think there are so many different things out there that bite you may not be able to identify it. I have a child that does react to mosquitoes like that but it's all over. Pure Lavender Essential Oils is great for itching and bites (it's great for everything. I keep a bottle of lavender in my kitchen for burns. This is what we use on sunburns as well.) I also give Benedryl to take away some of the sting and itching involved.
