Just starting and having problems

DS is exclusively breastfed and has been since birth. :goodvibes: He is a little over 6 months old and has 2 teeth. He crawls on hands and knees/ hands and feet and pull up on everything. He started showing interest in our food, opens mouth when we pick up something to eat. He'll bite off food if its offered. He WILL NOT eat baby food. I've tried all kinds of jarred food and he spits it out. If you give him a saltine, he gnaws on it with all he's got. Today I made fresh green beans from the farmers' market, and he ate them just like I did. I didn't season them in the pot so they were pretty bland, but he didn't care. He would take one in his hand straight to his mouth, chomp a peice off and chew it until he swallowed. Is this ok? I plan on bfing for the majority until he gets a good variety under his belt. Is this ok? Is there any real reason to do the mushy baby food thing?

I think as long as he's swallowing and not gagging/choking that's totally fine! I know my little ones hated baby food and we went straight to table foods. Mashed potatoes, bread, cheerios, green beans, squash (real), avacados, etc. those were all great at the beginning.

This is fine. Do a search on baby-led weaning, child-led weaning, Rapley method. I just started looking into this. It has to do with babies eating whole food not pureed baby food. I've seen a few mamas post about this before. Good luck.

DD is not loving pureed foods either and I make my own. I see no problem with selected tanle foods, you can also use the mesh feeder for fruits if you are scared of chocking. I may be trying that next

LOL, my DD was the opposite, she gagged on table foods for the longest time. I didn't think I'd ever get her off baby food!

DS is a different story though, he LOVES food, he's not quite 6 months but makes a dive for anything we're eating/drinking and loves trying our food. He's eating rice cereal & a few of the jarred foods so far & loves them too, but I can see him getting bored with those.

I'd say as long as he's not choking or gagging, let him show you what he can do! And that mesh feeder thing IS a great thing too.
