I have with cake mix and cookies. It worked great! I used the same quantity of applesauce as the recipe called for oil.

Another thing you can do is take a box of cake mix and add one can of pumpkin, substituting the egg, water and oil for pumpkin. Turns out yummy!

I've found that using all applesuce instead of oil can make things gummy. I use part sauce part oil. It also adds a slight apple flavor to quick breads.n b

I use babyfood instead of oil. It's the same principle. I made a funfetti cake the other day with tutti fruity baby food. YUM.

Ah. what a fun idea! We gave all our baby food to the food pantry when Zander wouldn't eat it, but that's a great idea to keep in mind if any shows up with the new baby!! :D

Yep, it works great with most "baked" items--unless it's a hug amount, then you end up with a soggy mess. If it calls for a lot of oil, you can use about 3/4 the amount in applesauce and 1/4 in oil.

Also, for things like a box of angel food cake mix, you can add the mix and a can of crushed pineapple (and nothing else). And bake it that way. Serve it with whipped cream/cool whip, and it's fat free and very low calorie.
