What's your experience with Fifth's disease?

My son was just diagnosed with Fifth's disease. He's actually had the rash for three weeks but since it is atypical it was just diagnosed.

the dr said it could take six weeks to clear up. I've read it could take months.

I had a miscarriage a few weeks ago. Could it have been from fifth's? I read the incubation period is 4-20 days. The time frame does fit...

my son had it when i was pregnant....the doc said that i shouldn't worry about it being pregnant because most of the time you have already been exposed to the disease when you were younger. it's kinda like chicken pox where once you are exposed you don't get it again. The doc said it's one of the most common diseases to be exposed to. i'm hoping you didn't miscarry due to this but i'm assuming this wasn't it. hope this helps.

My son also had it when I was pregnant. My doc did a blood test to see if I had the immunities in my system, and I did. Maybe you can ask for it, too. I think, like the pp said, it's very common, and really likely you have had it already. Take care, mama!

One more thing I forgot to mention...my son's cheeks would get that characteristic "Campbell Soup" boy look whenever he got warm for at least a month or more after he was over the Fifth's Disease.

I worked in daycare when I was pregnant and was exposed to fifths multiple times. My Dr said not to worry because the majority of people are already immune. Kearnan never did pick it up though, or he was asymptomatic.

thanks for you input.

It's finally clearing up, after almost 4 weeks. He's not itching either.

At least he'll be immune for life!
