Vax Spinoff - Enrolling in Public School - Success Stories & Tips Needed!

Hi Mamas,

Wow - there is some great info and many good points of view on the Vax topic! Please let's share some more!!!!

How you were able (or not able) to get your child enrolled in school - or how do you plan to tackle the issue as your child becomes school age? What exemption did you/are you claiming - medical, philisophical, or religious? What advice do you have for we Mamas who will be coming up against this issue in the future?

Unfortunately, at this time, this is all the info I have to offer on the subject (though DS is just 4 1/2 mo, so I have plenty of time LOL):

This is a great resource, it lists the laws of exemption for all states

If you are in OHIO this is great, we used the document looking one and just modified it a bit. Maia's preschool didn't even bat an eye.

My experiences relate to Texas, but I've never had a problem enrolling the kids with an exemption form (in our case, philosophical by-shot).

I *did* have an issue with one of the state workers who comes and checks on the records; when my son was 4 she kept trying to say he had to have his MMR or an exemption for it, even though the CDC guidelines said "between ages 4 and 6" was "on schedule". That was a useless fight and I finally exempted him just to shut her up (we planned on and did get the dose on his 6th birthday).

I'm in Colorado and nobody blinked an eye when I signed the exempt card and didn't have my daughters boosters finished for school. We claim religious exemption and it wasn't a problem at all.

For here, yes. You can claim any of the 3 exemptions and your child may attend.

I believe for private schools if they are state licensed they have to accept. Here in Tx they do not have to be state licensed though, so I don't know about those. Ds1 gets therapy from the school and so had to have an exemption on file. It was a piece of cake as far as the school was concerned. The only problem we had was getting a notary to witness and sign our exemption form. You would be suprised how many notaries thought it was their moral duty to force us to vax our child. I was complaining to my SIL about it and she said "I can do that for you you know." Obviously I didn't know it at the time, but I do now and we will use her in the future.
