The no cow's milk rule is because babies can't properly digest the proteins and this can irritate their stomachs digestive tracks. The irritation can lead to bleeding in the stomach and then cause anemia. Some will be fine with milk eariler than one and some later. If your baby is throwing up after drinking milk he may have some kind of intolerence to it, either lactose intolerence or an allergy (they aren't the same thing). My dd has a milk allergy (confirmed by a test at her allergists office) and gets hives where dairy touches her and throws up. She doesn't throw up until 30 min-1 hour after ingesting dairy. So milk could be your problem and milk allergies are more common in formula fed babies.
