I can never smell vinegar. I add mine to the fabric softner dispenser in my washer and dilute it with water. I know other add theirs to a Downy ball and dilute it with water as well. I only use 1/4c AND dilute it with water and have not had a problem at all. I use it only in the wash cycle.
