I wash my wool first. Then put wool back in a bowl of tepid water. Mix a small amount of liquid lanolin (if you have a bottle usually 1/2 cap full will do it) with HOT water to make a cloudy liquid. Poor it into water where wool is setting, mix it up. The wool should be submerged. Wait 10 minutes at least (more doesn't hurt). Take wool out, squeeze out excess water (do not wring, just squeeze), lay flat on a doubled up towel, roll in towel to squeeze out water, line dry. It's pretty easy, and doesn't take very long. I also lanolinize inside out, as that's the side I want well coated.
