Pumping instead of nursing is hard because the pumps don't seem to be as efficient at getting all the milk. This is what worked for me, but it doesn't mean it would work for you. I slept on a heating pad with a towel on it so it would catch the milk that leaked. I pumped like crazy and I nursed as often as the baby would latch on and if they were latched on to the non affected side, I would pump the affected side while nursing. I also took warm baths or showers and expressed milk while doing that. I know you said they told you to pump and dump, so I wonder if you need to pump more often. Also after you take the meds and are clear to start nursing again, you could try mothers milk teas. They seem to help with supply.
