For preschool DD takes turkey lunchmeat (not super-cheap, but Target has the best price, so I stock up there and freeze it) or leftover chicken, a fruit (fresh, dried, or freeze-dried), a veggie (like leftover peas) or a second fruit, and an extra something, like crackers.

DD won't eat bread or most cheese, and her preschool is completely nut-free, so there are things you could pack that I can't.
