Re: Sourdough starter
We made some bread yesterday with his "science experiment" as I've been jokingly calling it. It worked well and had the "sourdough" taste! It was yummy bread! It of course took much longer to rise than instant yeast like I am use to. We made the bread at night... let it rise overnight. Then beat it down in the morning. I baked it around 1pm when I got home from a doctors appt.
(*The first two days we left it outside with cheesecloth over it. It had a few bubbles. By day 3, it smelled a little yeasty. By day 4 the house smelled yeasty!
He used potato water, flour, whole grain flour, and honey to make his starter.)
So I there was no need to buy it after all!
