we are doing child led with DS2. I cut the avocado in half, than slice into finger sized peices and let him eat/play with it. Most of it ends up mashed into everything but, his mouth.
Also, the salt thing, well, if your a traditional foodie than you would probably add a little salt. There is no right and wrong, it just depends on your own lifestyle.
