So... my mother is left handed and I am right handed. It caused a bit of confusion at first but then I got the cast on pretty quickly. The knitting after casting on caused some frustration too, but then I switched from metal needles and a skinnier yarn to wooden needles and a nice thick yarn. It went well after that. Thanks for the advice and encouragement y'all!
