Were the beans green and stewed in coconut milk? I lived in Kenya as a child and had "mbaazi wa nazi" pretty regularly. Loved it. My sisters and I have been on a mission to recreate the flavor lately (without the trip to Africa) and have found several recipes that use pigeon peas. Do you think that might have been the beans? I remember the dish with or without tomato, but it almost always had the beans, garlic and onion.
