I taught my oldest things by playing with him. I'd ask for a green block, we'd count the cars on a walk, make animal sounds when we saw the animal. I didn't think anything was sinking in til 2.5 when he had a verbal explosion and it all just came out. He is in pre-k now and doing great. But I never pushed an activity. When he was done, that was it. He does very well for his age. Teaching doesn't have to be structured. It can be play.
