I did try the Bob books - he couldn't really follow the story line in them (my daughter likes them though).

We also tried Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy lessons...he knows how to read on a basic level and so we both felt like this was too repetitive...he needs something that's more than 'how to read' it just improves reading like with sight words, phonics, and helps make it fun...reading books is like pulling teeth - it took us an ENTIRE day to read one book (on and off again obviously - not continuously)...sigh...
