Girl scout patches are half ad half (sew on and iron on). I hate that but I guess boy scouts were the same as mom told me. I wish they were all one. Iron on are hare to hand stitch yet they fall off easy. My mom tried to match the outer color of the patch with thread she had. I have had to have my mom help with some since I can't sew as well or as close as the patches need to be and she knows how to use machine . I think just a heavy duty needle and the color of thread to match would work. I would only worry about the top thread mainly.
