Re: 8.5 mo old- no signs of crawling
my child started crawling after 9 months and walking unassisted at 11months. It means nothing 
my DD didn't even roll over until after 6months for one way and 6.5 months for the other way.
ETA: my daughter NEVER cruised. So, using furniture to walk isn't important either. She insisted on walking with our fingers (luckily she's tall and I'm short, but DH had a rougher time with it).
