It'll definitely change to colostrum at some point before birth It wouldn't hurt the toddler - may cause diarrhea, like a pp mentioned, he may not like the taste and may stop wanting to nurse because of the change, or he may take to it and just nurse like normal (if he does, he may gain weight quicker, cuz of the quality of the colostrum!)

Many women, though certainly not all, will experience a dip in milk supply before the milk changes to colostrum - totally normal, though, again, the toddler may not be happy with the lack of supply and may stop nursing because of it. Some quit, some keep suckling through it.
