I came here looking for a post JUST like this! We have NO IDEA what to get the kids for Christmas. They have enough toys (not too many, just the right amount) and only play with a few things anyways so even though they want one of every item from the toy catalog, we know that in reality, they would lose interest in those toys in a short time.

3-5 (that's the category we are in right now) : any sort of truck, construction vehichle, emergency vehicle, monster trucks, Army men (or the like, minus the accessories!), wooden blocks, Lego Duplos, and trains!
