why are they so huge?

So I got my free diaper from Sweet Pickles (thanks!) and it was a Blueberry pocket. I really like the look of it and it fit DD well, but what is up with that gargantuan insert? It is either use the newborn insert or the bigger, fold over insert which is basically as think as 2 BG inserts. I just don't need or want that much bulk! I giggle every time I look at that thing...
