I would cut the wings off as close to the edge of the pad as you can. Then make a new wing pattern that includes the shape of the pads and wings, a bit bigger then your pad area. Cut the pattern from poly fleece(old clothing made from it would be great). Stitch the pads to the new wing back and add your snaps.
