Besides the pollution, there is also bacteria in snow that could make them sick. I used to eat snow ice cream as a kid and it tasted good. I made some with my kids and it tasted toxic. The air is just so dirty now that it tastes disgusting. I don't freak out if my kids catch snowflakes on their tongues, but I don't encourage a meal out of it, which is where the biggest risk could be.
