I my son was born in the hospital without any pain meds. Now that I think about it, he likely would have been a cesarean if I had gotten the epidural, because he was getting distressed during the pushing stage, and it took an hour to get him out. I don't remember, but DH says that when he was crowning, the OB told me that we had to get him out NOW, and I did it. So glad I was already in transition when I got to the hospital, or I might have caved and gotten the epi. I've heard there are inexpensive doulas in the area, so I think I'll look into that also for this time.
