Microfiber is the only thing that should not go against the skin. It is very drying and can cause dry skin on your babies bottom. (Dry skin can lead to cracked open skin and that would not be good!) Normally those inserts are for stuffing in the pocket diapers. The inside layer of fabric in the pocket keeps it way from the babies skin. I like microfiber inserts in my pocket diapers because they are trim, absorbent, and easy to wash/dry.
