Also an experienced rider, owned Thoroughbreds for almost 15 yrs and spent over 20 riding them. One of the worst falls was just walking one out after a workout. Think trail ride relaxed on a loose rein, etc. He tripped suddenly and couldn't catch himself, went down to his knees and I flipped over his head.
It doesn't matter how calm and trained the horse is or how slow the pace. It takes a split second to go from a walk to a gallop and they can buck even at a walk. All sorts of freak things can go wrong.
So no, absolutely not. It's not worth the risk (to me).
