A baby with a fatty acid oxidation disorder
has trouble using fat for energy. This is
because a special enzyme that converts fat
to energy is either missing or or not working
correctly. There are several different types
of fatty acid oxidation disorders. A baby with
a fatty acid oxidation disorder cannot go
without eating for very long. If this happens,
a medical crisis could occur

the problem with FOD babies that usually is the issue is an illness where they eat less, vomit etc, they can't recover like a normal child.
Adults have FODS and have to avoid some different foods and fasting. easier for an adult to force feed themselves than getting a baby/toddler/child to.
