Some moms would let their weaned child try to nurse -- more times than not, they don't even remember how to latch or nurse, and nothing comes of it. *Most* of the time, lol, though I have heard of a case or two where it ignites the nursing all over again.

Sometimes the "forbidden fruit" part of it (saying no or trying to get the child to NOT want to try) makes it into a bigger issue.

It's hard to know what to do!
