Re: When to intervene with thumbsucking?
No advice on to when to intervene. Just sharing.
I'm all time telling my Sister that I'm surprised that her boys don't/didn't suck their thumbs. Their Mom (my Sister) seriously sucked her thumb till well into her 20's. Even with her retainer she wore at night after getting her braces off she'd still sucked.
Our Mom once tried some bitter tasting thumb stuff that's supposed to stop thumb sucking when my Sister was about 7. My sister just put her thumb in her mouth and said Yummy tastes like Peanut Butter and Jelly. Mom would tell my Sister to get her thumb out of her mouth but nothing more than that. Mom figured she'd quit someday. It took many yrs for that someday to come but it eventually did.
I quit sucking mine when I was about 13.

It's OK, next time I'll make you listen. I wish that it were in the power of all children to say that to their parents and to know that indeed they would be heard as we were in those wonderful days on Waltons Mountain.Narrator The Waltons (From the Runaway in Season 3 Eposide 4.)
