When I nursed I had a similiar problem. Started when she was 3 months old - Cow milk protein allergy! And, TEETHING!

I quit all milk protein - butter, whey, casein - ALL and it was a huge difference in 1 to 2 weeks. She is now on soy and we have tried a few solids that have milk protein and it's back to square one (arching back and lack of appetite).

Teething: she used to bite my nips as she began teething. Funny thing is, no teeth came through - but it was obvious how her pain was.
