I was a bipolar teenager--does that count? If there's a problem with the mom then that will definitely antagonize everything and make it worse. For me, meds helped a little (but I always stopped taking them because my combo didn't help enough, but I know they really help a lot of people) but making friends who weren't into anything scary really helped--sort of a bright spot to look forward to so everything wasn't gloom & doom & crazy until I finished with that whole teenager hormonal thing that makes everything harder.
