Would you offer your extra milk to a friend? Even if they might find the offer a bit strange?
A longtime friend of my dh and his wife are having a baby in Aug. (They are my friends too, but the guys are the original connection). She was unsure about bfing, but he was very supportive. I think her hesitancy was more lack of knowledge rather than disinterest, etc. Anyhow, she recently had some medical things happen and is now being told that she will not be able to breastfeed. (This is suspect to me and I plan to ask her more about it.)
I am currently bfing and pumping now that I am back at work. I have about an extra 4oz a day and will not need any of the milk I have stocked in the freezer as I am off again for the summer. I know it is not enough to ebf, but am thinking about offering it if they would like to give some bmilk. I mentioned it to my dh and he was like um...that is gross. Then I told him that I had given our ds some of my sister's milk when we were travelling. And then he was like, oh, really?
I think it is funny to think of human milk as grosser than cow's milk...just because you are up close and personal to the site of origin...rather than just pulling a plastic bottle from the cooler at the grocery store. But, I realize that that is where most of America is mentally.
So would you make the offer?
