Sorry, but I have a silly question. What exactly does "wicking" mean?

Also, I mainly use FBs and lately they started leaking. I haven't had a problem before but now it seems like I have to change her clothes every couple hours because she's just wetting right through. It's seriously driving me nuts. Is this what wicking is? Am I doing something wrong here? Please help.
