My Mood:
You have done amazing Mama.
I exclusively pumped for 6 weeks with my oldest and 8 1/2 months with my second.
My second child was consuming 64oz a day! Idk where he put it, he has always been skinny. That was definitely my amazing milk producing capacity, but it took its toll on my body. I was hospitalized with an antibiotic resistant mastitis and endured several more serious bouts during that time. I was ill or pumping far more than I was parenting. My body was tired and my children were suffering.
Breastmilk is amazing and perfect, but what she needs most is a Mama who can care for her at her highest potential. If doing what you are doing prevents you from being the best mom you can be, it is time to make a change.
In the end, all I needed was for my very supportive breastfeeding peer counselor to say "it IS ok to stop, you have done an amazing job, now just enjoy your baby!"
