Dr. Dobson is a bit pro-spanking for my liking...but we're completely anti-spanking at our house. He doesn't say spanking is the only way to discipline, but advises that is one of many "valuable tools" in discipline. He does have some great points about how it takes consistency and the involvement of both parents staying on the same page with discipline for it to be effective. I've gotten quite a few recommendations for Dr. Sears' "The Discipline Book" but I haven't been able to find it at our library yet and I'm too cheap to buy it Their "Fussy Baby Book" has a great section in it for dealing with high needs/spirited toddlers & older kids, so that might help as well.
