3D/4D Ultra sounds....

Who has had them (can you post pics too)? Did you like it? Is it worth the $$$?
Is 4D better
I am contemplating getting one. This will be my last pregnancy (if I am blessed with one) and so I want to do everythign special that I didn't with the others. Is it a good idea for me to save up and do it because I dont want to miss out?

Re: 3D/4D Ultra sounds....

I had one with my 5th son at 34 wks (which is the cut off for ideal imaging) and I loved it! They had it locally weeks before I gave birth to my 4th baby so I knew it would be a waste of money since I'd see his real face and whole body in person really soon. I was ecstatic to get one this last time. And 3d/4d is usually done at the same site. 4d is just real time movement in 3d which was kinda choppy and didn't focus well. Here's a couple pics...

I had a 3D u/s when I was pregnant with my son. He had markers for Down's Syndrome, so we were sent for a level II u/s at 24 weeks and they also did 3D. Here are some pics:

Re: 3D/4D Ultra sounds....

They try to get me a shot (3D) every time I go in for an appointment and ultrasound (every two weeks or so). Doesn't cost me any more $ than my regular appointments would. I guess that's just my Dr. and situation, though. I think they're cool, but creepy, LOL. This last one I got of baby A was at 26 weeks and she looks like an alien, LOL. I have a good one from about 24 weeks (baby B, though) that looks less alien-ish. I think this last one was because of how she was positioned. I think they're super cool, and a lot of people are really glad they did them! I suggest it if you want to try!!

You can kind of see her head in the upper left corner and some of her body. That one was the better one of baby B.

This one my DH calls the alien shot, LOL. This is baby A and both of her hands are on her face - I think she was having a bad day, we couldn't get a better shot, LOL.
Ohh, sorry they're both kinda fuzzy, LOL

Please dont flame me for what im about to say, but i understnad that ultrasounds play a role in the medical world, its a grea thing that we have them here for us WHEN THEY ARE NEEDED. But the 3D and 4D have risks and arent always the best thing to subject a baby in utero to.
Anyhow, i know its fun to get a peek inside but the risks are often downplayed and theres affects on the baby that the techs dont make parents be made aware of.
Ill shut up now about it. Sorry if i offended anyone that was not my intention here at all. Please no flames.

Re: 3D/4D Ultra sounds....

i got one at 38/39 weeks..... not the best idea, i had to beg to be able to from 24 on and let my mom know i wanted one from a long time before i got pregnant, but thats besides the point. if you get it done, do it around 25 weeks if you can, LOL!!

anyway, its really cutre, we have 3d and 4d and i got a couple 2d pics as well...
its just a lot better pics if the baby isnt squished like mine was, lol!!

Re: 3D/4D Ultra sounds....

we have free/government health care here so all ultrasounds are completely covered but wheather you get a 3d/4d us is up to the doc and what clinic he/she can get you into in the time frame he wants these tests done. i wanted a 4d one with the last baby but our us's were short notice so we never got to have one, but hopefully for the next one

Re: 3D/4D Ultra sounds....

With my dd I had a TON of issues and had to get ultrasounds twice weekly to monitor growth and development and to figure out the exact time to take her. they mainly did 3D ultrasounds but they did do a 4D ultrasound a few times around the 30th week or so. They said once you get to a certain point everything is a bit too squished to really see clearly. I remember the ones I had the week I delivered an even the 3D ones with a tiny baby looked a little crowded. I never paid a dime as it was all covered byt our insurance do to the complications.

Re: 3D/4D Ultra sounds....

They really are kinda silly, IMO. I got one for free because my hospital had just received the equipment and wanted to try it out. The 3D/4D US are best for earlier in a pregnancy. The fetus has to be COMPLETELY surrounded by fluid to get a clear shot. If the fetus is up close to any part of your body it's difficult to get a clear shot. So if you are very far along it is near impossible to get a clear shot of anything at all.

There is NO way I'd pay for something like that. You are just seeing a 3D/4D image of what you see in the 2D ultrasounds. You can't really tell what the child looks like and/or the images are rather distorted. They are really overpriced IMO.
