Wine and breastfeeding?

I miss my wine!! We even have a wine fridge that is full of bottles. I haven't had a glass of wine since trying to get pregnant a year ago. Now, my LO is 5 weeks old and I still haven't had a glass. Anyone indulge in wine while nursing? If you do, when do you have it?

My doc said that a glass of wine or beer once in a while will not be a problem. I had one after I finished nursing my LO. Then sat and had a cold beer with DH

Here's a link you might find handy: http://www.kellymom.com/health/lifestyle/alcohol.html

I drank while nursing... I think it was always with food, but occasionally not. I didn't stress about it, but I'm really good about keeping moderation to a real moderate...not ever pushing the boundaries. I say as long as you don't have any history of abuse, follow your gut! Cheers!

Re: Wine and breastfeeding?

I have a glass of wine with dinner every once in a while. I really missed it when I was pg, so, since having D, I have had a glass with dinner twice (he is 8 weeks old), and he didnt seem to act any different than usual. The way I figure, me drinking one glas of wine with my meal was no worse than all the painkillers they give u on an empty stomach when u deliver ( I had to have c-section). So, I didnt worry too much about it, but I dont think I could, in good conscience, drink more than that while nursing.

Like others, I did a small glass with dinner once she was past those early weeks. I read something (not sure where) about their stomachs developing and being able to handle the acidity better (might be an old wive's tale).

I have a small glass occasionally. Sometimes I wait until after I nurse, but not always. I'm really not concerned about a single drink. I probably wouldn't have more than one though.

LOL, yes to this.

But in the early days, I think DD was always nursing, even during my meals, so anytime I had wine with a meal, I was nursing, too. And I was always hungry, so I always had a meal...

Beer is actually really good for milk supply

Anyway, everything I've ever heard is that if you're good to drive, you're good to nurse.

I only ever had 1 drink at a time though, and usually right when DS took a nap.

GUINNESS is supposed to be the best beer to drink while breastfeeding Antioxidants!!! You can bet your bottom dollar that I had one every once in a while! Anything in moderation!! Just do what feels comfortable for you.
I think there were a couple of times after I pumping that I had a couple of glasses of wine and I just "pumped and dumped" for about a day. I had a huge back-up supply, so it wasn't a problem.
