Nipple pain
I am oping you guys might lend some advice. I have nipple pain in one nipple. On the actual nipple it self to the point that anything rubbing against it hurts.
I had nipple thrush before but it was treated and the doc checked it said it was gone. But the nipple pain never went away on this side ![]() Nursing hurts no matter what position I use. It looks almost like there is a blister at the end. Any advice?

Re: Nipple pain
Sounds like it could be a bleb...Do you have the most recent edition of The Womanly Art? it has a perfect description on how to treat it and what may or may not cause it.
Some of the reasons are: a plug that has moved to the npple that can't pass throu maybe skin grwe over the pore and trapped milk could be a plug formed right there wash area once a day with soap and warm water soak cotton ball in vinegar and wear over nipple inside bra-milk has a lot of calcium in it and vinegar dissolves calcium deposits make it sfter- soak nipple in cup of water with 10g of epsom salt-see if nursing or gentle manipulation will will squeeze it out soak in tub or shower, then soak cotton ballin water, olive oil, or canola and wear over nipple in bra You can also use a steril needle and try to get it with that by poking from the side (remove top layer of skin that has no feeling) |

![]() Very good advice - I agree. Thrush sometimes accompanies blebs. The infection irritates the skin and as it heals, it sometimes forms skin over the top of an active milk duct. If that happens, it causes a lot of pain. If this is the case, you will also have lumps deep in the breast from the milk backing up in the glands that cannot get out (because the duct is clogged or coverd by skin) and if this is not resolved soon (in a few days) the milk glands that lead to the clogged duct will stop producing milk. Eventually it will permanently stop making milk and you will not have the pain anymore but you will also have a drop in your milk supply, permanently. Its good that you're being proactive! Also, great book for BFing moms mentioned by pp. Good luck, Mama! I hope it feels better soon!

Re: Nipple pain
Ok well this has gone on for 5 months, it only stopped hurting in the middle for a few weeks. So I think it must be something else.
One side of the nipple looks purplish, maybe it is some kind of wound? When I talked to the docs here they just said it is normal deal with it or put ice on the nipple before nursing to numb the pain ![]() I do not think it is latch because the other breast is fine. I almost wondered if the thrush got deeper into this breast and was not treated with the topical creams. But the baby never got spots in his mouth, so I am not sure if it even really was thrush in the first place. No lumps in the breast itself. If it just the perturding part of the nipple. And the baby latches with a full open mouth but even the pressure when he is taking the full nipple hurts if that makes sense.

Re: Nipple pain
Hmmm...
Here are some options to consider: poor latch leading to nipple blanching/vasospasms - http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/...blanching.html nipple pain - http://www.llli.org/llleaderweb/lv/lvfebmar00p10.html I'd still consider a yeast infection that didn't total clear, or came back - http://lactinv.com/breastfeeding_qna...rticle=tscreen My baby has a high palate and this makes my nipple sore but I've never had any cracking, blisters or bleeding. He is 5 months old and this is how it has always been. You'd need to see an IBCLC to determine if that is the problem.... Good luck, Mama!
