I was bored.

I had my longest leave from work (11 days) since my 4 month maternity leave 2 years ago. I was so bored. Clean house, check. Play outside, check. Work in the garden, check. Park, check. Zoo, check. Pool, check. Exercise, check. Walk, check. Clean house, check... By day 4, I was OMG, how much longer can this go on?? Day 5, I packed me and my daughter up and headed to the beach for 4 days. Yay!

Guess I'm really not cut out to be a SAHM, or *ahem*, a FTM. Or maybe I should have more than one kid to keep me a busy bee, lol.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE spending all the time possible with my daughter, but even with activities outside and out of the house for 50% of the day, I still felt so house-bound. I don't know how sahms can do it, plus if I were a sahm, I'd have no money to get out of the house very often. I would lose my mind.

I will say, spending all that time with my daughter was wonderful. No complaints there.

Re: I was bored.

Last year when I was on a year long mat. leave (that's what we get up in Canada) I was sooo not looking forward to going back to work this January. However once I did I realized that I missed it (adult interaction, etc.) and I think I'm a better mommy because I have/need that little time away (I work p/t).

I think it's good to recognize what we're capable of and not knock ourselves for wanting a break from the kids and housecleaning. I agree though - SAHMs amaze me...especially those with lots of kids! After cleaning the same mess 3x before noon, my patience level starts to wane...fast! lol

Eta: I do miss sleeping in, though! Waking up at 6:30 after 6-7 hours of interrupted sleep really sux!

Re: I was bored.

Aww, yeah...sleeping in is the bomb-diggity. Unfortunately, my daughter is up by 5:30am, workday or not!! I haven't had to set my alarm clock since she was born, lol. Somedays I love waking up to her singing and rolling over to give me a huge hug and kisses, but other mornings, as she's sticking her fingers up my nose and in my eyeballs, I'd prefer the news on NPR as my wake up call!

I only work part-time too (4 days a week, 36 hours), and it's been great to have 3-days off. I would really like 3 days of work, and 4 days off, but my workplace (and finances) say 'no no' to that ideal! But yes, interacting in a workplace is a necessity for me, beyond financial needs.
