subbing applecause for oil when baking

i never knew that you could sub applesauce for oil when baking! It worked perfectly in my waffle batter this morning. I love that it is so much healthier and less fattening. My waffle recipe called for a half a cup of oil! I'm so happy I stumbled upon this tip!

I always do it with homemade applesauce. No sugar added!! It's awesome!

oh, I had always assumed it would make waffles weird, that's awesome, gonna have to give it a shot, I use it in almost everything else!

You can also use mashed banana. The flavor comes through more than with applesauce though, so make sure the banana flavor would be ok with what you are making. With waffles I'm sure it would be ok.

You can use any mashed fruit- I do applesauce, pear sauce, banana ect. If you have to use a lot it can make your recipe more moist ( My amish bread recipe calls for 1 cup oil per batch and it makes the bread really moist when I sub a whole cup so for anything over 1/2 cup I do the first 1/2 cup sauce then the rest oil. Things like waffles & pancakes it works awesome swapping it 1 for 1!

It's a great way to use up baby food too if you have some laying around!

I have never tried it for pancakes, but I have use strawberry applesauce when I didn't have plain in baking. Works just as well. I was worried it might leave a strawberry flavor, but it didn't

The only thing I don't like applesauce substitute in is brownies. It turns them all cakey
