Post partum and NFP
I get NFP but what I dont know is what should I be on the lookout for prior to my first period coming back. My temp has stayed pretty consistent at 97.3-5. Will I see a dip and a rise with ovulation? And if so how do you know to abstain prior to the dip. You cant go back in time, kwim? Do we just not dtd until I see a dip? That could be months or a year!
Also I had a pretty big rise then a pretty big dip 2 weeks ago, but only over 3 days, so that confused me. Cause shouldnt it have been the other way around? Sent from my iPad using DS Forum

Re: Post partum and NFP
Basal body temperatures show that ovulation has happened, but are not a reliable indicator of your body preparing to ovulate (your fertile time). You need to get to know your body's other fertility signs, such as cervical fluid, position, etc. All your fertility signs are going to be all over the place post partum and while breastfeeding. You will notice many "false starts" for ovulation during this time. HTH

Re: Post partum and NFP
cervical position is helpful to go by too....it goes up high close to ovulation....and you should check in the evenings....if it stays short and close, it should be okay...but if it starts moving up....maybe take a little time off to see what happens.
also, MANY people get pregnant without getting a period back....but for the most part, it is pretty unlikely, and similar to the failure rate of condoms...for whatever its worth. we are also exclusively using NFP, but we've decided that if we get pregnant before I get a cycle back then it must be meant to be....once the first cycle hits, then I start temping and charting and we start abstaining until we know what the heck is going on
