Eggshells

We are eating TONS of eggs here lately. What can I do with the eggshells? Just compost? Would they be good to put in my potted plants? How about boiled egg shells? Any difference?

oops should this be moved to the "cooking forum"?

Shouldn't matter if they were boiled or not, and yeah, they compost well.

Re: Eggshells

I have also head that they are really good for keeping kitty cats out of your flower beds. Just crush them up and sprinkle on top of the soil.

Re: Eggshells

Boiled eggshells can be used for kid's art projects (think mosaics!) Easter egg shells work well, or just plain white and paint them with watercolor once pasted down.

If you used a non-toxic glue you could probably still compost them once you were tired of displaying the art!

Re: Eggshells

You can put them in flowerpots & the garden to compost. In the summer I toss all of ours into the garden. The broken shells cut slugs so they die. They also add calcium & other nutrients to the soil.

Re: Eggshells

I rinse them out (urban living, don't want to attract rats) and toss them with the compost. But I like the idea of leaving them out for birds, too!
