Longies/shorties/soakers question
DH's Aunt offered back at Christmas to knit Corey some longies, shorties or soakers - told me to just get her a pattern. I purchased the LTK patterns for all 3.... She came up for Corey's birthday a few weeks ago and saw him in his Willy's Woolies longies and was asking me about them and again mentioned that she's the fastest knitter around and to give her the patterns and she'd knit for me.
So, my question is other than the pattern what do I need to tell her? Obviously Corey's measurements would help her out LOL! Does anyone know if there is something on the LTK patterns for a crotch gussett? Do I need to tell her anything else special? How much yarn for each project? Hehe, I'm just full of questions tonight

Re: Longies/shorties/soakers question
Well it depends on the weight of the yarn how much it will take. Soakers will take 1/2-3/4 of a skein of cascade 220. Shorties will take 3/4-just over 1 skein of the same. Longies will take 1 skein to 1.5 skeins all depending on size of course
![]() I am not familiar with the LTK pattern so I cant answer those questions. I guess the biggest thing is make sure she knows how to knit on the round and with double points. I am sure she does...but you should probably make sure

Re: Longies/shorties/soakers question
Thanks Sam! She did mention when she looked at his longies that they were knit on the round... so I'm guessing she does know how - I will ask though.
I am going to see her on Sunday at a bridal shower so I am going to pack up all the wool yarn I have here and bring it to her with the patterns and measurements... we'll see what comes back

Re: Longies/shorties/soakers question
For the LTK picky pants pattern there are a few things you'll need to tell her. First off, DS's measurements. Second, do you want extra rise and, if so, how much. Third, you need to decide on the waistband option. Fourth, do you want to use short rows, add stitches, or both for extra space in the bum (neither is also an option but really only recommended for diaperless kids). Finally, what type of cuff do you want. If you look through the pattern, there are pictures of the different options. As for how much yarn you need, the pattern gives approximate yardage for the different sizes.
I haven't yet knit the longie or the soaker patterns but I imagine you'll need to make similar decisions. I'd recommend just reading through them. The patterns are really pretty easy to knit.

Re: Longies/shorties/soakers question
I have done the LTK shorties from the picky pattern. They are pretty easy, and I am a beginner. I will say, I used the weight of yarn they recommended, and I only used about half the amount of yarn that the pattern said I would use for my size. But it is always better to plan for more, just in case! The gusset was super easy, and came together at the end like a dream, you can hardly tell it is there! I would also say that I did the med for my 17 lb baby and he will probably gow out of them soon. So if she is an experienced knitter, she might want to add a few stitches to make it between the size that she has allotted for. (I hope that makes sense!) HTH!!

Re: Longies/shorties/soakers question
That's interesting on the yarn and sizing. I also did a medium for my 17 lb baby and their is still a lot of space for him. In fact, they fit my almost four year old, 35 lb DD (with no diaper on) just fine. It sounds like you may of knit tight. Oh, also, I found that the yarn length was VERY close for a similar weight yarn (I used Wool of the Andes worsted weight yarn).
