Ebay - package tracking says delivered, but my mailbox is empty!

I am sure this has happened before, whats the best way to handle this? I feel like this is going to turn out badly for me
On the 17th, my ebay tracking of something I ordered showed it as "delivered" I waited all day, and only got a bill and some junk mail
by the time I went to call USPS, their CS was closed, I had to wait through sunday too
today, monday, I called them and filed a report, they said they will speak to the carrier and get back to me
I went to ebay, and requested the seller's contact information too

I dont know what to do, I do not feel like this is the seller's fault, since DC says they shipped the package, and I know the address was right, since I paid using PP and never have had an issue

It seems like the mail man marked the package as delivered, when it was loaded on the truck.. but somehow never delivered it or put it in the wrong box

How does ebay handle this if USPS really lost my package? DC clearly says delivered on the 17th, but I did not get the package Will ebay protect me too?

Check with your neighbors? Someone could have gotten it by mistake. Definitely keep on the post office though. It was recently found out that one of the local mail carriers here was stealing mail.

I dont actually have any neighbors, not address wise at least.. we live on a farm, our "street name" is actually our driveway

this seems to be a problem with the mail carrier making a mistake, but I am worried that I have no "proof" other than my word that I did not get a package

do I need to open a claim with ebay right away? or should I give the USPS a couple of days to try and figure it out first?

Ugh, that sucks. I really wish that mail carriers were selected better. Of late, I've been hearing too many horror stories from people about lazy carriers.

Have you gone to the post office yet in person? If you haven't and you're able, I definitely would.

That has happened to me 6 times since January! I am so fed up! When I haven't had DC the seller has refunded my money. Just last week that happened with a package that tracking said delivered and there wasn't anything. I filed a case with USPS. Their solution was to send a carrier to look in my mail box and see if the package was there. It wasn't and they told me my mail would be safer in a PO box. Now if I have the option I won't mail anything through USPS and I ask people to use a different service. It sucks because it costs more and is inconvenient (in my area) but I don't have any faith in the USPS anymore.
