What does "rainbow baby" mean?

I am seeing "rainbow baby" in a lot of siggies. What does it mean? Is it related to knowing if it's a girl (pink) or boy (blue)?

Re: What does "rainbow baby" mean?

The rainbow baby comes at the end of the rain storm of miscarriages and fertility battles.

I've got my rainbow baby coming in June, after a stillbirth and 4 losses.

Good luck to all of you ladies! I'm hoping for a rainbow baby, too.

Re: What does "rainbow baby" mean?

So, is it a baby after one loss, or is it usually after a series of losses or fertility challenges?

In my own opinion, it is after a series of losses/ challenges. But everyone is different, and others may feel differently.

There are no rules. A loss, even one, is so profound that the light that is a new pregnancy, surely turns into a rainbow for that mother.

I've suffered secondary infertility for years. Had one loss, my next baby will definitely be my rainbow baby.

Personally, I think any of us who has suffered loss knows how painful it is. I think if someone has had one loss and wants to consider their next baby their rainbow baby, it is perfectly acceptable.

On the flip side, I've been through a lot including IF resulting in IVF and losses, but don't use the term. It's a personal thing.
